Interesting news today to power the networkers up (plus, the overall, irrational exuberance doesn't hurt either). Sounds like Sprint is going to use both Cisco and Tellabs to build their new ION network. Wonder who will get the most business?

Blue chip techs power Nasdaq to another high
NEW YORK, Dec 7 -- Tellabs Inc TLAB rallied again, rising 5-7/16 to 65-9/16, on expectations that the telecommunications equipment maker will get a contract from Sprint, analysts said.

Sprint to launch all-in-one service January
DALLAS, Dec. 7 -- Sprint Corp. FON , the United States' third largest long-distance carrier, on Monday said big business customers can begin signing up for its new integrated communications technology in January 1999.... The Sprint ION network is based on Cisco Systems CSCO equipment and uses technology more akin to the Internet than to traditional telecommunications systems. Sprint will announce software and services partnerships for the system in early early 1999.
