"I tried one about a year or so ago and it dutifully hit every single link that was available, including the ones to remove bookmarks and peoplemarks, with predictable results."

Yikes! My experience wasn't quite that bad - messages that I had read kept returning as unread, but nothing got wiped out. Anyway, speed has not a been a big problem (usually!) since I joined @Home.

Here is an idea that I think might help some of us smaller investors avoid getting pump'd up and dumped a bit by people using multiple usernames.

Simply put, put a partial or full ip address along with each post. While not a full guarantee of being able to discern someone having two names or a group of people trying to pump a stock, it might be a step in a better direction.

if we had the full ip address, we could go to sambar.com and find out where they are connected from. If we had a partial address we could at least do some minor checking if we suspected collusion.

Knowing the ip or where its connected from, could be used to uncover schemes where someone (or a group) was involved in a pump & dump operation.

I realize dial up connections tend to share ip addresses, but this might go a long ways to at least giving the individual investor a little more chance to detect fraud.

Luckily I don't rely solely on si (no offense please) when I am shopping for a stock to purchase. I tend to use the ValueLine as my primary source, so I have been able to avoid a lot of the scams that people have been hit with. I do however enjoy the posts on SI and many times have found them to be of great interest.

David

PS: if anyone wants to see how an ip addressing works, go to my bio page at geocities.com

then after it loads, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the pink icon. (its the icon left of my picture)

When you are connected to that site, you will see your ip address as one of the more recent hits along with other info, like what OS you are using, etc.

Bob,

Twice now I have had a wierd bug occur on SI. This time I took snapshots and put up a webpage that shows the bug.

geocities.com:80/CapeCanaveral/Hangar/8802/sibug.html

I have no idea why it happens or under what circumstances. But you can use that reference as kindling for solving the bug.

Thanks

David.

PS: i'm not sure how to repeat it. it happened one time to me before, and when i tried to switch to a new thread to repeat it it did not repeat. But i just got it today, so it is repeatable under some set of circumstances not yet identified.

The first time I encountered it today i didn't have the text highlighted. I went back and copied the text to 'edit' the response text back into the missing post. That was when i took the snapshot.

Bob would you please clear up one of SI's Terms of Use.

<<Using the service for illegal purposes or for the transmission of material that is unlawful, harassing, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, obscene, tortious or otherwise objectionable.>>

Does "for the transmission of material" include providing a direct link to the objectionable material?

There are some members of SI who are clearly concerned by threads which provide direct links to pornographic web sites such as found here: Subject 17211

Is this example a violation of the terms of use? If not, are these types of links allowed within SI profiles? Are gifs from these sites allowed within SI profiles?

Seems like we are headed down a slippery slope!

Yes welcome to SI;
Message 8299883

please add that per lance
the key issues is not really whether music guy has commited any violations
the big issue is he being singled out and the only one that has paid for his
actions..

hey my wife is currently looking over
every single post of musiguy, plus the rules of
silicon investors....she works for the state attorney's
office down here in florida....
the question is how much of a stink does music guy
want to make...she advise me that he could have something
similar to a work discrimination case....in the last couple of
weeks has anybody else been suspended for the same violations as
him,or his he being singled out...and by law,he must be given a written copy of the
violation he has been given for his suspension,
not even verbal is enough...IT APPEARS THAT WE HAVE A DISCRIMINATION
CASE ON OUR HANDS.....we have the german nazi office stopping free
speech....NEXT MOVE IS MUSIC GUY'S.....

Bob,

Could you please take a look at Message 8307780

It has a link which is similar to SI's URL but links directly to a pornograhic site.

It has recently also shown up at: Message 8310364

Mr. Wayne Rumball is offended that he had to look at it before lunch and is afraid it might fall into the young hands of David Miller!

Message 8309666
Message 8310126

BTW, he also feels I should be suspended, I will leave that up to you. If I have violated the terms of use by linking to a public area within SI, I gladly accept my suspension!

Message 8308086

Thanks, Cisco
