Connections

I use a cable modem and a 56k line simultaneously on the PC, and a 33.6 line (on the Mac). The cable modem (mediaone) is actually connected to another PC with a firewall that I use as a proxy server and have run 150' of ethernet cable to it. to give you an idea, I downloaded 50 Mb of files from microsoft today in about 4 minutes. I run two serarate data feeds and one browser (IE) through the cable modem, and use the 56k line for the Netscape browser and backup data feed. The Mac I only use for a third browser and end of day downloads to the ProTA technical analysis package.

If you have cable TV service in your area that provides broadband cable modem access, I highly recommend it as it is almost equivalent to T1. Installing the second 9 Gb drive was a pain due to all the apps I had to reload and data rto redowload or recover, but I can now populate incoming and downloaded data to both drives much faster. The main PC is only a single 400 MHz, but has the 100 MHz bus and 128 Mb ram and an 8Mb AGP graphics accelerator. I will probably upgrade that to 256 Mb by year end, although I haven't noticed any performance problems to date. I did install Windows 98 and find that amuch more robust OS than 95.
