Taiwan's Electronics Makers Target DVD Player Market

December 7, 1998 (TAIPEI) -- Taiwan's makers of home electric appliances have begun mass production of DVD players, due to their optimism over the prospects for the new product.

Among them, Tatung Co. has already obtained orders from customers in 12 countries, including the United States.

Local information product makers, including Esonic Corp. and Royal Information Electronics Co. Ltd., have introduced DVD players in Taiwan.

Taiwan-based home electric appliance makers have followed suit, with Tatung debuting DVD players in the fourth quarter.

Sampo Corp., another leading manufacturer of home electric appliances, said it plans to offer DVD players starting in January.

Tatung recently exhibited its first DVD player. Through its global logistic network, Tatung has received trial orders from buyers in the United States, China, Hong Kong, Australia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Columbia, Switzerland, the U.K. and other countries.

Additionally, small volumes of regular orders have come from Panama, New Zealand and the Netherlands, the company said.

As for the local market, Tatung estimates that by the end of December, sales of DVD players will reach 5,000 to 6,000 units at 800 company outlets and other distribution channels in Taiwan.

Sampo said its DVD player-related operations will target both the domestic market and original equipment manufacturing (OEM) customers. The company said that royalties to owners of DVD player patent technology comprise the biggest obstacle for the local industry.

Royalties account for 15 percent of costs for local makers of DVD players, according to Sampo.

Congratulations to the real investors's here!

Those who have had the patience to stick this one out
are stiff necked indeed, and deserve the reward. You
have understood the fundamentals of investing and therefore
are rewarded handsomely. You were not swayed by birds
who preached daily from the muck! It pleases me that
those shorts, those birds, who pierced your ears daily are
now thrown from their nest.

Ice cube, ice cube, ice cube, chirp, chirp, chirp, the chirps
of credibility are destroyed forever, for the Cube melts warm as
predicated here by many. The fundamentals have won again
regardless what the shorts had to say.

I have never been hurt by Cube, I suppose I'm a fair weather
Cuber. I have in the past traded Cube successfully never shorting
it even one time. I have always believed in the product and
potential of this company to reward those who take the long
position.

I don't hold Cube these days, yet these are the days to own it!
My play these days is: oil drillers. I suppose when most hate it,
I love it. I'm buying more oil than I can afford.

Cheers to all of you!

Good luck c-ya!
