<political issues of the RBOCs that prevent profitable implementation drive me crazy.>

Id say your not alone. Its becoming very obvious that the Bells want to replace 25% of lost voice lines w/ data, voip or what ever means they have if thats a real figure. In time the Bells will use IP to deliver ld voice & data w/ possibly video. Could it be more? More hurry up & wait. Just pisses me off. This is what pulls me to the Wstl/Lu relationship in that Lu needs Wstl & well, we shall see what all this R&D leads to. Its apparent that Lu would miss this whole step & would do adsl/atm on their own if time permitted. Maybe it will. IOTO that the longer the window, the harder time Wstl has but hey who needs adsl w/ some of the T1 products Wstl has. :}

From todays PR,

<Westell's SmartLink APS provides service providers with an additional maintenance protection capability, automatically switching a malfunctioning T1 line to a spare protection line, while notifying
the service provider of the problem. SmartLink APS is the only protection switch currently approved for use at GTE.

Westell's PROACT Performance Monitoring NIUs continuously monitor the T1 bit stream performance in both directions of transmission and reports this information to a service provider's network test location on a real time basis. PROACT is the industry's first NIU that implements ANSI T1.403 Network Performance Report Messaging (NPRM), a feature that allows the service provider to respond to circuit degradations before the customer experiences significant problems.>

All this is b/c of QOS. I dont like it but thats the game.

Now some numbers from BA.! Not expecting much but if I had to guess its @ least increasing. Todays PR leaves me wondering if Gte isn't doing a little of the same on the front or back side depending on how one views it.

<It may take dynamite to break open this bottleneck.>

Im a Gte customer & if they would just give me the materials Id install it myslef. Everything but the box here is above ground & all Id have to do is rebuild a box or two. I wonder who owns it. :} No way could I ask a vendor to supply it if I ran a Bell given the fact that $30 per month per person for how long develops my service. Must be what they (Bells & Fcc) mean by reconditioning the lines.

Customer is always right in most cases!

Night,
