The people I've talked to don't seem very worried about it but have assured me that the fight is far from over. The moving of the boundary is more of an issue to Inuvialuit than it is to DBL.
The quote in the OTTAWA CITIZEN says this "The companies with an interest in the deposit,Darnley Bay and Falconbridge,Have said they'll proceed with developing the 80 per cent of the deposit that is outside the park."
The headline for this article is "NATIVES CONSIDER SUING OVER ARCTIC NATIONAL PARK"
There was also a write up in THE GLOBE AND MAIL which read "SENATE COMMITTEE REJECTS PLEA FOR ADJUSTING BORDER ON PROPOSED PARK"
The "national" press that BDL is receiving on this issue is great.
(You can't buy this!!)
When I read articles I would have sworn Leon had written them..."possibility of a rich nickel mine"..."Miners are now talking about the Darnley Bay discovery in the same breath as huge nickel deposits, such as Voisey's Bay in Labrador and the Sudbury mines in Ontario"
I don't think the natives are going to back down on this one and we will be probably hear more on this issue in the near future.
The important thing here is for DBL and Falconbridge to take advantage of the free press and keep the ball rolling, get up there and poke a hole (many holes) in the ground soon!
If it is in fact another Voisey's Bay I don't think the natives would have much trouble in winning their case.
Take Care
Will

Park boundary update
Since the DBL memo of Dec.8th,the Senate voted 40 to 35 against referring Bill C-38 to the Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples for further consideration.

The Inuvialuit are now initiating steps to take legal action as to the park boundary.

(I also hear that the public offering as attained the 1.4 million minimum and should close tomorrow. Not bad considering how the resource markets are nowadays!)
