Voltaire --- I must agree with Jerry,,, low volume is never good in a rising mkt. In a falling mkt it indicates investors are holding for better times. Although CPQ did not rise with DELL it seems DELL may have the momentum yet to ride the coat tails of CPQ and the NAS. I have been here and done it all and am well aware the MMs can and do have some control over price/volume. Simply by playing the bid ask. It is much more predominant in lower priced shares and those with less than 35 mil avg shares traded daily. Even today with only 14+ mil shares bought/sold (7++ traded) X $67 per it gets expensive. Take into consideration they make money on shares traded so they can make a killing on a few pennies per share X 35 mil. On a fast up or down day they are happy and most happy when an issue is flying as they know gaps will be filled. Yes they can and do play with little regard to the shareholders or company--- only their own pocket... but they too have some limit. Even though we know it is done,,, it is not leagle.. they are extremely cautious... not out of fear of anything except being sanctioned (and fined) to the point of being suspended from trading and being forced off the gravytrain...
