ThrustMaster Joins Forces With PeopleLink to Offer Internet Communication Services for Online Games
HILLSBORO, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1998--ThrustMaster, Inc. (NASDAQ:TMSR - news), a leading developer and marketer of computer entertainment game peripherals and software solutions, today announced that it has joined forces with PeopleLink, Inc., through an exclusive distribution arrangement, to offer Internet communication services for the online game community.

PeopleLink, Inc., a closely held Internet communication company dedicated to improving the way people communicate online, is a provider of innovative web site communication services such as people directories, interest groups, instant messaging, and chat.

PeopleLink's unique desktop instant messaging software is an integrated component of Talk n' Play(tm), which enables up to four people to simultaneously talk over the Internet while playing online games. Desktop instant messaging software provides consumers with a simple way to communicate one-on-one or in groups, in real-time or through email. Talk n' Play includes a ''destination web site'' and ''community directory'' designed to give web site visitors an easy way to search for people by interest, game preference, or other voluntarily provided personal attributes. Visitors to the Talk n' Play destination site are invited to find people who share their interests, hobbies, and skills, talk to people in real time, and invite them to join as an opponent or team member while playing online games.

Market research indicates that ''destination web sites'' receive more frequent visitors who stay longer if community services are an integral part of their experience. Most web sites, particularly entertainment software publishers, are seeking these types of new and innovative services. ThrustMaster plans to provide these services to leading entertainment publishers in the online game community through licensing or joint venture arrangements. Software publishers that offer Talk n' Play communication site services will have a competitive advantage relative to their competition.

''PeopleLink is one of the leading Internet community and communication solution providers and ThrustMaster is excited to join forces with PeopleLink to directly empower the online game community,'' stated Ron Resnick, ThrustMaster's Vice President of Marketing. ''The objective of our strategy is to have the Talk n' Play destination attract on-line gamers who will visit and purchase ThrustMaster game controllers, software solutions, and other products,'' Resnick added.

''Communications is the largest and one of the fastest growing online activities,'' stated Steve Glenn, President of PeopleLink. ''We provide leading web sites such as Earthlink, Infoseek, Compaq, and others with outsourced community solutions. Working with ThrustMaster, we now have a solution for online game sites that want to enhance their communities' online game experience.''

Established by idealab! and funded by AT&T Ventures, PeopleLink (www.peoplelink.com) has quickly become one of the largest providers of complete community communications services to web sites, ISPs and online businesses. To date, over one million people have registered for the PeopleLink service. PeopleLink's partners include AltaVista, Bolt, Compaq, Concentric, Earthlink, Infoseek, Netcom, Opera Software, and hundreds of others. PeopleLink is headquartered in Santa Monica, Calif.
