NOT SOUP YET FOR 3COM: The investment community's first reaction
Tuesday upon hearing that 3Com Corp. (Nasdaq, COMS) and
Siemens AG are holding a press conference today in San Francisco
to announce ''a significant agreement that will impact the future of
voice and data communications'' was that the German giant is buying 3Com.

Not so.

Eric Benhamou told Reuters on Tuesday that the company plans to go it
alone. And a trusted source reports that the announcement is a ''broad
marketing alliance,'' not a merger.
