Rage128 is lower performance than a single V2, though at 32 bit, with the caveat that you can't get higher performance by dropping to 16 bit. Rage appears to be 32 bit only, simply ignoring the upper 16 bits when running in a 16 bit mode. This is the only logical explanation for equivalent 16 and 32 bit performance results. TnT has the most to lose against Rage, which appears to have just edged it. If TnT couldn't stop Banshee, Rage can't stop V3.

I'll grant you one thing: From what I've seen of the Rage so far you shouldn't expect any Banshee/V3 in HP Pavilions and possibly Compaq's. They both have long standing relationships with ATI and Rage is probably good enough for them.

The bottom line is this: Rage is not going to displace very many TDFX owners at retail and probably won't win ATI any new OEM deals, but may help them keep the ones they have.
