Fairfax County, Va.'s Media General Cable will offer subscribers the Road Runner high
speed Internet access service. The cable company said it will introduce the service next
month and will make it available countywide by the end of the year. Media General
passes approximately 340,000 homes and serves 240,000 cable customers. Road Runner
is a joint venture among affiliates of Time Warner Inc., MediaOne Group Inc., Microsoft
Corp., Compaq Corp., and Advance/Newhouse. The cable company will charge $99.99
for installation and $49.99 for Net access and rental of a Motorola CyberSURFR Wave
cable modem.
