DIALY 2nd Press Release Dec 8 London

The Dialog Corporation launches remote access to customised information for Dialog@Site users

Oxford, 8 December 1998
The Dialog Corporation has announced a series of major enhancements to Dialog@Site, its CD-ROM intranet-based service which offers enterprise-wide information access.

Dialog@Site 2.0 now incorporates InfoServe, an innovative new feature which allows remote access to CD-ROM data. This enhancement to the service will prove invaluable to a growing number of consortia, by enabling them to load OnDisc databases centrally and offer access to their members in remote locations. In addition, third parties such as agents and distributors hosting OnDisc databases will benefit from InfoServe by being able to make the databases available to multiple clients from one central server.

Companies and universities wishing to provide departments with controlled access to specific data will also benefit from the new InfoServe feature. Using InfoServe, system administrators can configure Dialog@Site to allow entire groups or departments access to the specific information they need; without the administrative task of loading, managing and updating the CD-ROMs and without having to pay supplements for additional users. The new version allows system administrators to set up password-protected access to different user groups, thereby facilitating effective management of information usage and proper compliance of license agreements.

Additional enhancements to Dialog@Site include accelerated search processing time for large numbers of simultaneous users and a more intuitive navigation system using simple word or graphic hyperlinks.

"A company's competitiveness and profitability can be contingent upon its ability to deliver mission-critical information to its employees in a timely, comprehensive and cost-effective manner. By making its authoritative OnDisc collection available to users at a fixed price through a desktop browser across multiple platforms, Dialog@Site has proven to be an indispensable information asset for companies”, said Sjoerd Vogt, General Manager OnDisc/@Site Division, The Dialog Corporation.

London, 8 December 1998

Enhances current awareness capabilities of Profound service
Includes exclusive access to full-text of key US newspapers
Provides access to abstracts from the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times
Includes the first wave of an ongoing programme to add new UK-based sources
Spanish-language full text access to El Pais
New market research sources are also online
Customers now have exclusive access to new Frost & Sullivan material
The Dialog Corporation today announced the addition of hundreds of news sources to its Profound business intelligence service. Leading news databases from Responsive Database Services - Business and Industry (B&I) and Business and Management Practices (BAMP) - have now been categorised by InfoSort and are live on Profound. B&I boasts news sources including over 900 trade and business publications covering business events in over 190 countries around the world. In addition, BAMP presently covers over 250 management sources, focusing on practical approaches to dealing with current business issues such as technology, planning, expansion and decision-making.
The company has also doubled the amount of content previously available from COMTEX Scientific Corporation - one of the world's leading wholesale news aggregators. COMTEX provides widespread coverage of breaking, global news, brought together from over 40 global newswire publishers. Additional full feeds from COMTEX's national and international information providers will enhance the Dialog and Profound products with up-to-the-minute reports from sources such as Newsbytes, PC World and The Sports Network.

Key US news sources in full-text will also be available on Profound. The Dialog Corporation has over 190 full-text US newspapers currently available online, primarily through the Dialog service. Now users of Profound will be able to benefit from The Dialog Corporation's exclusive access to the full-text of 27 newspapers owned by the Knight Ridder group, including The Miami Herald, San Jose Mercury News and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

In addition, Profound users will be able to access the full-text of other key US titles, including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Washington Post and Chicago Tribune. Abstracts from the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times will also be available via Profound for the first time.

Further to that, UK-based news and business information sources will be added to Profound's Newsline in the near future, as the first wave of a number of new sources being licensed for the BBC's Electronic News Cuttings Service. These include regional titles such as the Belfast News Letter and the Glasgow Herald and the world's only English-language socialist daily newspaper - the Morning Star.

Additionally, the company is offering access to the full-text of El Pais in Spanish. The file is available to customers of the DataStar and Profound services. Previously, customers only had access to abstracts of El Pais via the World Reporter file, which is also available on Profound.

Profound has also added a number of new market research sources, including Icon Group, Baskerville Communications, IBIS Indonesia and Online Data Services. Icon Group International, Inc. is a US-based research provider, whose mission is to assist managers with their international information needs, provide global and regional management and industry reports on a wide range of sectors including human resources, operations and logistics, strategic planning, law, environment and finance.

Baskerville Communications Corporation is another US-based company that creates and delivers international business information to high-growth media and related industries, ranging from the latest industry news to high-level strategic analysis covering television broadcasting, cable TV, satellite, new media and telecommunications.

IBIS Business Information Service, an Australian-based research provider, has added a new report series on Profound to deliver up-to-date information on the companies, industries and economy of Indonesia. These reports are designed to assist potential foreign investors in making educated investment decisions about the region.

Online Data Services is part of a European network of research and business consultants, covering world-wide markets. Their reports - which are available exclusively on Profound - provide strategic marketing information to facilitate understanding of market structures and dynamics.

Finally, from 1 December, customers of The Dialog Corporation are able to benefit from exclusive access to new Frost & Sullivan market research reports. Their new content is no longer available through other information aggregators.

"As a key business intelligence tool, the addition of these respected news sources to Profound is invaluable to delivering current awareness to the desktop," commented Eric Goldstein, Vice President, Business Affairs and Content for The Dialog Corporation. "It provides those users - typically business professionals - with additional information to support the decision-making process."

"We have made a commitment to add more local-language sources to our online databases," he added, "to meet the particular needs of the European market. The addition of El Pais in full-text marks another step along that path."

Ciaran Morton, Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa concluded: "This is this good news for all our customers, not only users of Profound. Building a news file with such diverse leading news sources, indexed to a common standard, provides us with a springboard from which we will be able to develop innovative news-only information products in the future."
