COPYCATS! Once upon a time, Adtran and Pairgain were hot stocks
together. Now, they're sharing a new existence as pariahs. After the close on
Friday, Adtran followed in Pairgain's footsteps, warning that it too would miss
fourth quarter earnings. 'Net-o-holics, check out these stocks' prices two
years ago, when their new technologies for delivering high speed data over
telephone lines were going to take over the world. Just like the Internet! It
was a really great story! Hey, it may still happen, but what matters is that it
didn't happen on Wall Street's schedule. Anyway, at least Adtran didn't get
pummeled, Pairgain-style. The stock slid just $1 5/16.

Knip-
My point is that its going to be a big market and PAIR can be thankful that there is an animal called a CLEC. Otherwise, your points are dead on. But LU and Nortel better get their ADSL line cards for #5ESS and DMS100 switches out quick or the CLECs and guys like Armstrong at AT&T will have all the TDM switches replaced by fast packet machines. PAIR can make a buck or two in the meantime and will be eventually bought for a premium.
