Have you ever seen the movie "The Rainmaker"? There is a line in there that I just love. "Sworn in by a fool and vouched for by a scoundrel, I'm a lawyer at last."

Mano;

To expect more from these guys is to ask that human nature change itself. After all, the Swiss Bank thing was about finding buried treasure and the lawyers going after it just like treasure hunters. Just one bunch of pirates stealing from another bunch of pirates. The victims are irrelevant, their all dead anyway. After all you can't take it with you. That's their view.

At least, in the latter half of this century murder, rapine, pillage, theft and general chaos have moved more into the courtrooms rather than being visited upon innocent people every 30 years or so. More so than in the past. There is still to much of it in the real world but we are learning, painfully, bit by bit. One day we might live in a rational world. Remember, the Savings and Loan Scandal. Almost all those guys were lawyers, a few were accountants and most got away with murder. That includes, George Bush Jr., Gov. of Texas. There's Texas again. I mean, the European nations moved into Bosnia, belatedly and put a stop to genocidal murder because they finally realize it cannot be tolerated in a civilized world. Civilized people in their various nations demand it. They have actually caught some of the criminals and are putting them on trial. Its not much, since it should never have been allowed to happen at all but it is better than what happened in the thirties when Hitler could have been stopped. I would rather see the voraciously greedy, criminals who are never caught, fighting in courtrooms than in the streets. Does this belong on the fundamentals thread? I suppose, it is fundamental.
