In 1979, there were only two wild card teams - Philly 11-5 beat Chicago 9-7 in the Wild Card Game. Philly (11-5)went to Tampa Bay (10-6)and LA Rams (9-7) went to Dallas (12-4). LA Rams upset Dallas and TB beat Philly.....

LA Rams beat Tampa Bay at Tampa in the NFC Championship. The Rams advance to the SB and lose to Pittsburgh 35-31. The Rams had the worst regular season record ever for a SB participant. I believe the Whiners were 2-14 that season.

robert is correct, division winners stay at home regardless of wild card team record being better. they are the wild card and unless another wild card wins, will only get one home game at best.
