NEW YORK, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A class action has been commenced in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas on behalf of all persons who purchased the common stock of Zapata Corp. (NYSE: ZAP) from July 6, 1998 through October 15, 1998, inclusive (the "Class Period"). The complaint charges Zapata and certain of its officers with violations of the federal securities laws. Plaintiffs allege, among other things, that defendants made statements containing material misrepresentations and omissions regarding Zapata's efforts to enter the Internet and electronic commerce businesses. These misstatements caused the price of Zapata's common stock to double during the first two days of the Class Period and inflated artificially the stock's price throughout the Class Period. When the true state of affairs was discovered, the price of Zapata's stock precipitously declined, thereby injuring the members of the Class. The Complaint also alleges that certain individual defendants profited by selling more than 400,000 shares of their Zapata common stock at artificially inflated prices throughout the Class Period. If you are a member of the Class who purchased Zapata securities during the Class Period, you may apply to the court no later than December 21,1998 to serve as a lead plaintiff in this case. Class members must meet certain legal requirements to serve as lead plaintiff.
