Thanks for the informed discussion. That explains a lot about the $99 Indicator system and why it is not suited to such things as cellular phones and the like - too much compute overhead.

delSecur is working with CRIM and with the European consortium on the MIAMI project (Mobile Identification Agent). Since that project has been authorized, several US entities have expressed an interest in pursuing development project with delSecur.

There is much happening in this field and it is happening rather quickly, particularly compared to the previous rate of change. I think delSecur will participate in a significant way.

This discussion about the delSecur device and those of Identix/Indicator points out the major benefit of this technology: it is both secure and a lower cost solution. It was pointed out that the Indicator device sells for about $99 when used in keyboards where it does not need a separate enclosure or power supply. Because of its reliance on the PC's microprocessor, it has to be tethered for it's brains. The software running on the Pentium processor the significant DSP algorithms. This reliance on the expensive guts of the PC make it unsuitable as a cheap and low power device for such things as cellular phones. Add in a uP or DSP with added power supply to do the same thing and you shoot down the price argument and portability.

The delSecur device is uniquely designed. This provides some discussion of the technique used. But, as Pierre told me, the company is not very good at writing about their technology - mostly because they have been extremely busy pursuing the developing opportuities: biz.yahoo.com
The company has not done much to get the product exposed outside of professional circles. They have not had the time or inclination to write up trade journal articles because inquiries are coming in on an almost daily basis already.

The delSecur device is based on the experience Pierre has in video processing and security where he worked on methods to encrypting images for video security. That field was gated by cost constraints and the nature of the support device. Out of that has come the unique approach to encrypting finger print "images", or, more correctly, of using the finger print as part an encryption system rather than just as a "signature file" that is stored and verified in some fashion or other.

So how can delSecur compete with Identix and others? Through innovation in validation technology that meets the challenges of providing a low cost and reliable device.

Sure the competition is going to jump on delSecur and bash it as much as they can - that comes with the territory and is a sign that delSecur has stirred up the hornets nest.
