Bosco;

You should come here. We are up to our eyeballs in them <G>.

Actually I shared Clark's indignation at the cronyism that runs deep in business practices here. That is, until I thought long and hard about it and realized there is, in varying degree, some cronyism that runs throughout commerce and has always been. The fact that the practice in Asia is so blatant and is frequently done at the expense of competitiveness is, I guess, what makes us bristle? Just looking at my own career I realize how important it has been to know the right person, and to be able to cut across usual lines of demarcation when it comes time to communicate. I can honestly say I have never been party to deal where the commerce suffered as a result of anything underhanded. But I have been party to deals where prior experience between participants meant the difference between getting it done and not.

All to say that Willie Loman was right when he lectured on the importance of being liked.

Best,
Stitch
