Thieves Rob (Blood) Bank

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Thieves robbed a blood bank in a remote Russian region, stealing blood and rabbits used for biological tests, Itar-Tass news agency reported.

Police in Syktyvkar, capital of the northern Russian Komi region, were planning to search markets to make sure the rabbit meat -- which could be dangerous to eat -- was not offered for sale, Tass said.

It was not clear why the thieves would have wanted to steal the blood, nor when the theft took place. An official from the bloodbank told Tass it would take two months to replenish the region's blood supply.
