SKYM - Just removed from lawsuit with Sharper Image...very ethical company, apparently. There was a recent article (December 4) where there was some confusion on advertising rights and competition with Sharper Image, and they promptly pulled their ad, which was the right thing to do. Also, I have excerpted some portions from that article that say more about the company. I know I have certainly seen their catalogs when I travel (which is saying a lot, because I almost never travel!) Lets face it, when you are in the seat back of the airlines, you have a VERY CAPTIVE market. It is a natural for a web site, since I know that I never take the catalogs (even though they want you to), and without the catalog, you might have a hard time remembering the ad and the number, etc. But, Skymall is an obvious name, and easy to remember, and since you can go to skymall.com , it is a total no-brainer. I think you are right...this will probably gap up in the morning, but it might actually be worth holding for a while. Also, the publicity around Sharper Image's web site won't hurt SKYM's web site and publicity. Finally, let's face it, there are a lot of people who spend a large part of their lives flying from place to place, and Christmas is coming up very fast; using your time in the air to do your Christmas shopping could offer many people a real benefit. Excerpts: (I forgot to attach them) SkyMall(R), the largest in-flight catalog company in the United States, makes high-quality products and services available to more than 400 million airline passengers per year. The company markets and sells premium merchandise from participating merchants, including major catalog companies and specialty retailers. SkyMall has exclusive agreements to place its catalogs in aircraft seat pockets on 16 airlines, which carried approximately 70 percent of all domestic passengers in 1997. SkyMall's in-flight catalog program and expertise are being leveraged through Internet alliances for electronic commerce, international expansion and incentive programs aimed at broadening the product lines and expanding the customer base. Through its subsidiary, Durham & Company, SkyMall offers high-quality logo merchandise and recognition jewelry to corporate America and other organizations.
