Apple has lowered the existing iMac to $999 and really beefed up the $1,299 priced iMac with much larger hard disk, more memory, etc. etc. As I recall, last week the thinking on this thread was February 99 for the near term best price. I suppose Apple is trying to get a head start on the Pentium crowd. Xmas decorations in October, why not post Xmas prces in early December?

MB, Hickey mentions that while pc resellers and distributors are showing weak sales, that direct sellers are stealing some market share. His premise is "not this much". Have you any insight as to whether or not this is the case.

If the direct sellers are doing very well, then much of the rest of Fred's argument is in trouble.

Mike,
I hope you & Fred are right about AMAT. I'm short at 38 & planned on shorting more on the way up, but I'm losing my nerve because of the lack of fear & reason the bulls are displaying. Also, it does'nt help when analysts like the CNBC turkey are still recommending it as a strong buy even after it doubled.

In the last 2-3 weeks 3 fabs have been shut down, but fundamentals mean nothing. I'm beginning to think that AMAT might make a new all time high. Do you think that reason & sanity will prevail any time soon?

James
