I don't think that the network itself is what drew them, rather the account portfolio, and the established presence IBM has in over 800 dial POPs stateside, and their established presence in over fifty some odd countries around the globe.

The personnel-swapping arrangement they arrived at is quite impressive, and is already being hailed by many as a most creative and imaginative way of preserving the human factor, which I think is laudable. In all, taken on average, I think it was a great move for both of them, since the acquisition by T, and the outsourcing component of the deal will allow each to focus on their own core businesses, as the principals themselves have stated.
