Paul,

You have been pumping the Gateway prediction for a couple of months.

Why do all their TV ads have that Intel jingle?

They have to have it. Otherwise they would be penalized by Intel. Intel would charge them higher prices than other vendors who do agree to Intel extortion and include the "jingle".

This reminds me....has AMD considered a rebate program like Intel? Too expensive?

I realize the value of "Intel Inside" may be re-examined considering the gains in market share by AMD....but advertising by AMD could play an important role in bringing skeptical consumers to buy their products.

I was in COMPUSA Sunday and was browsing the systems section where a neophyte couple was being entertained by a red-shirted salesman. They had a clipboard plastered with notes and different newspaper ads. The salesman was steering them toward an AMD system when I heard the woman say that a friend had told them, "[W]hatever you do, don't buy the AMD, it is not the same and not compatible." Although I was happy to hear the salesman vociferously dissuade them, to the point of telling them that they were just "paying for the name," it still bothered me.

Maybe a rebate program is a good idea?
