For what is worth -- I had conversations with Data General and Roger Erickson yesterday. Both conversations were surprisingly long and informative. Roger was very careful about what he was prepared to offer me -- as you might imagine of a CEO, however, he did candidly answer a few of my questions that I did not have an opportunity to ask at the last CC. Most of questions surrounded EB and its timing & potential. He verified that EB was in code freeze as was scheduled and that final QA at selected sites was to start soon. He said a full production EB release will be GR'd by the end of Q1/99 (again, on schedule.) The preliminary testing has gone very well and has been well received by those who have had an opportunity to try it out. He believes the product "should sell well..." I asked him more pointed questions about the cash flow, and he said that he could not provide the specifics that I sought, however, he did say that any projections based on Q3/98 results might prove misleading. He said that operating expenses have been changing and may not be consistent with these latest numbers. Although, again, he would not elaborate. In his defense, he was not at all defensive -- sounded very calm, confident and optimistic. I refrained from asking him about the deferred Llyods of London note due by January 10, 1999. He was surely not ready to get that specific, although I got the feeling that arrangements have/are being made to address/resolve. -------- I cannot get too specific about my conversation with DG, but suffice to say that DG is on the hook for the 6500 licenses. I was not given any inside information (nor did I seek any), although an expression of personal thoughts was offered up in memory of Mr. Jay Tanna on behalf of the DG crew. DG has no "open" opposition to selling the EB product forthcoming, and indicated that the current WT installs are running OK. In fact, the person I spoke to was sort of anxious to get his hands on it (EB)to give it a spin. We talked about a bunch of other companies like PC Docs, Highland, etc... He did state that response time from ALTS has clearly improved since Ericson took over, although they admit they still have a loose end or two to tie up. -JH
