The electronic options exchange that E-Trade is putting together will have some heavy hitters from the Chicago Board Options Exchange as principals. Just to be one of the primary marketmakers costs something like 10 million dollars.
The web site for the exchange is
iseoptions.com

All these heavy hitters will have absolutely no reason to ever use the Archipelago ECN, which a few of them occasionally use now. They will direct this order flow to the ETrade ECN, although many of them have made what may only be a temporary transition to Island already.

Taffy, do you use Etrade? It doesn't suck. It does suffer from order routing to MM's such as NITE. But it doesn't suck. You'd be surprised at what it offers. However, until they have an ecn, it's not for daytraders. And even then, I'll probably still use it just for postion trading. But I can't get half the stuff I get from them from MBT. ;)
