Galileo Announces New Remote Access Controller FYI DSL

December 14, 1998 -- Galileo Technology, Inc.
today announced the GT-96010A Remote
Access Controller.

The GT-96010A provides a complete
WAN-access subsystem-on-a-chip ideal for
applications such as DSLAMs, SOHO
routers, and remote-access servers. It
includes a powerful feature set: multi-protocol
serial controllers, RISC CPU interface, system
controller and DMA engines, and Ethernet
connection. The GT-96010A improves on
Galileo's first-generation GT-96010 product by
offering increased performance and support
for a variety of popular embedded-system
microprocessors.

"The GT-96010A has the flexibility,
high-performance, and fast time-to-market
system designers of WAN access systems
have been asking for,'' said Ronen Boneh,
Galileo's product director for WAN products.
"Our customers appreciate the GT-96010A's
integration of what is often many discrete
components, into a single solution in silicon.
Additionally, the GT-96010A has the
performance needed to support multiple xDSL
channels, as well as high-bandwidth frame
relay or ISDN applications.''

"The GT-96010A offers designers three
degrees of flexibility,'' said Mark Mihara,
Galileo's product manager for WAN products.
"First, is the CPU choice. The GT-96010A
provides a simple interface to Intel's i960®
and i486®, IDT's RC32364, Motorola's
Coldfire™, and IBM's PowerPC™ 401GF.

Second, its integrated multi-protocol serial
controllers may be individually programmed
to support HDLC, BiSync, UART, or other
user-defined protocols. Finally, the
GT-96010A supports a modular system
architecture. Multiple GT-96010A's may be
cascaded, providing the ability to simply and
cost-effectively add system performance and
channels."

The GT-96010A is available in volume
production quantities now, and is priced at
$24.95 in 10K volumes. Evaluation boards for
the GT-96010A are available today including
the EV-96010A-RC featuring IDT's RC32364.
Three new PHY modules are also available:
EV-96010-10BT, providing a full-duplex
10BaseT Ethernet interface; EV-96010-V35
with a 2Mbps V.35 physical interface; and the
EV-96010-RS449, with an RS449 interface
which runs at speeds greater than 10Mbps.
