I would like to read some new posts from Lucent stating their current relationship with Westell. Quite some time has gone by since they first posted a Lucent/Westell relationship. A lot could have happened since then, and since no one is saying anything it leaves me wondering, what's up. I just hope that the relationship is still strong with Westell now that Orckit hooked up with them as their international distributor. And in the long term Alcatel may faze Westell's product out of DSC's rack with their own DMT product. Remember that Westell's DSC solution was CAP. Could BA be stalling on high volume deployment, because they really want DMT from Alcatel? This whole thing is a mess for Westell,……I am just trying to put some logic behind it all. Maybe Westell can really pull it off,……. I am still waiting for a Westell profit,……the only sure way the stock will go up.
All in my own opinion.

Hey Mad here my take..

The new lucent 5ess intergrates DSL functions. So in other words, the DSLAM is part of the switch. As these switches replace the older switches the Telcos are getting the switch and a DSLAM for free..

Sounds like a song

"Switches for the money and DSL for free"

Now looking at BLS I see two events that will really change the DSL landscape.

1) a solution for the DLC. 6.5 million phone lines are served from a DLC in BLS region. One big reward for BLS is the pairs from the RT to the consumers are free of load coils and bridge taps.

For the customers that happen to be close enough to be served from a CO, I believe BLS will do any cable work to see that customer has service.

2) This is the real clincher. G.lite could be a huge freakin windfall for the telcos. Think about it ..no CPE service, no huge marketing plans. The dough just falls in as the consumer buy the modems and acquires service. ( I haven't heard the g.lite stuff is working right? it may be.)

How does WSTL fit??

1)These CO's are freaking full of SLC-2000 DLC's. I can't imagine that WSTL wouldn't sell a ton of slc OE.

2) Here's where I think the g.lite is a good deal for wstl. Any customers buying a g.lite modem and they are served from a RT/SLC 2000. The phone company has to plug a wstl card in the remote to work.

If someone know differently please post.
