Steven, a version of Emile's "theory" has been around for a long time, in Russian nationalist-chauvinist circles. There, the revolution is not so much a Jewish plot to massacre Christians, as a Jewish plot to subjugate ethnic Russians. But I suspect it all comes from the same conspiracy theory pot. One of the most curious features of the new Russian anti-Semitic chauvinism is this picture of the Russian as Victim, as Sacrificial Lamb. (True, whole classes of Russians did indeed perish during the purge years, but non-Russians also suffered.) What do I think of such theories? I think they are nuts, which of course does not keep people from professing them. jbe
