Interesting comment by Benny:

"Already, it is working with Siemens, the largest vendor of
PBX, or public branch exchange, phone systems in the world.
''To be able to harness their expertise is pivotal,'' Benhamou
said. ''Siemens is actually much more powerful than Lucent.''

Sage Research Announces Networking Equipment Brand Preferences; Most
Organizations Have Standardized Brands
BW - 09:04 a.m. Dec 09, 1998 Eastern

NATICK, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 1998-- A
survey of nearly 600 networking professionals, conducted by
Sage Research, Inc., finds that most organizations have
standardized brands of networking equipment. Based on US
organizations, 81% currently purchase networking equipment
from either a single or a small number of standardized brands.

Rather than purchasing networking equipment from the vendor
with the best available product, many organizations are
purchasing from a limited number of standardized vendors. In
other words, most organizations are brand-based buyers and
have strong brand preferences.

"While this bodes well for dominant brands such as 3Com and
Cisco," notes Jared Huizenga, Sage's LAN analyst, "the
challenge is for the second tier players and start-ups. They will
be battling each other to become standardized brands--as well as
to control the 19% of organizations that are not brand-based
buyers."

"The days of products being chosen strictly on their technical
merit are over," notes Katheryn Korostoff, Sage's president.
"Today's network managers buy based on brand first, and
technology second. So even if you have a technically superior
product, that doesn't necessarily mean it will become the market
share leader."

These results are available, along with other brand related data,
in Sage's latest LAN Trends annual service report,
"Brand-based Buying: Analysis of Networking Equipment
Purchase Behavior." For more information, please contact Sage
