Shane, MB usually says to read Lawrence G. McMillan's Options as a Strategic Investment. It is 882 pages and not the lightest reading in the world. It is organized in a way that it is also useful as a reference or as a chapter at a time reader.

Shane, The best book is Lawrence Mcmillan's "Options As A Strategic Investment," but some consider it a tome. The shortest explanations are found in the brochures put out by The Options Clearing Corporation. You can get those for free at www.cboe.com.

But none of these really explains what I do. Buying puts or calls is only part of the equation. Managing money so you live to play another day is another part, and those books and brochures do not even broach this topic.

I suggest you read my old article, "Tech Stock Speculating While Wearing a Belt and Suspenders," on The Internet Financial Connection." You can get to IFC from the Silicon Investor homepage. Once at IFC, just click on archives and search for my article with that name. Though I discuss buying calls, not puts, the strategy is the same. Taking that strategy and then overlaying it with the put explanations in the Options Clearing Corp's brochures should give you all you need to know. And, if not, ask questions of me or others.
