Patrick, good read. One point I would add is the 4X AGP version of the board. Sellers had said OEM's are looking at 6 month cycles. Banshee, V3 and 4X V3 falls squarely into that plan. 1 million Banshees sold with limited number of OEM's for first product makes future look real promising. Riding on strength of OEM sales certainly flattens out revenue stream. High end machines get the recent intro, low end machines get the big volume. ATI has demonstrated that this strategy works very well and is profitable. Joe C.

More ATI news:

voodooextreme.com

The framerates in the article are with vsync off. Voodoo2 is faster in lower resolutions, but the scores are very respectable and take no hit in 32-bit. V2 SLI beats the Rage 128 in framerate, so the V3 should have the performance advantage, but not the features advantage. Note that the scores posted are from ATI and may be suspect.

As I've said before, ATI is a strong competitor. I think the V3 chip will mean more OEM wins and squeeze nVidia even more. ATI may be able to protect their market share a while longer with their new chip. It is late to market and will not be a significant player in Xmas sales.

Michael

Pat,

With the limited supply of Banshee I don't see how they could bring another OEM online. Are you expecting the card to be CREAF's or DIMD's? Do you think they can meet demand from another OEM, especially CPQ?

I'd kill to find out how well GTW is doing with Banshee, especially if they think it has brought them additional sales. There's a GTW storefront near here, I think I'll drop in and fish for their take on the Banshee. (Is that like getting it from the horse's rear end? :)
