It is not exactly free. The stock holder owns the same assets, but the assets are represented by two stocks rather then one. Normally the company spinning off the stock will decrease in market value. The two stocks then start to represent the value of the individual companies. Normally a stock holder will hang on to the spin off stock looking for an increase in value. Of course, some are going to sell right away. When Coors did this with CoorsX, the CoorsX stock greatly increased in value and Coors took a big hit on the Coors stock. However, that doesn't mean that will happen with COC. It all depends on the value of the companies involved.

I didn't catch this before. It appears to be a stock spin off to Dupont share holders. Wonder what the ratio will be. Too late and too tired to look at Feedgar filings to find out.
