London--Dec 8--Recent revelations that the European Central Bank and the
Bundesbank are to re-value their gold reserves at market prices is more
evidence that the "mythology" surrounding gold is being replaced by a
harsher economic realism, Mitsui Bussan analyst Andy smith said in a report
entitled "To market, to market."
"On any definition, these are admissions that gold is no longer
special, no essential 'cost of doing central bank business', no overhead to
be borne just for old time's sake. A wake-up call for sleeping dogs lying.
A mining, almost mercenary approach," the report said. Story .12635
