Memphis Becomes Wireless One's Third Two-Way Wireless Market December 11, 1998 JACKSON, Miss., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/Wireless One, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: WIRL) announced today the launch of its third high-speed data transmission and Internet access system, providing two-way Broadband Wireless Access for small-to-medium businesses in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1998, Wireless One launched similar service in Jackson, Miss. and Baton Rouge, La. Memphis is the third of thirty cities in the Southeast U.S. in which Wireless One plans to offer Broadband Wireless Access. The Memphis area contains an estimated 433,000 households, including 28,000 small-to-medium businesses and Small Office/Home Offices (SOHOs), without access to affordable high-speed Internet services. Wireless One's Memphis launch of its Broadband Wireless Access service provides an alternative to traditional wireline-based Internet services. In those areas not served by cable, ISDN or T-1 service, it brings access to high-speed data and the Internet. Wireless access gives Memphis businesses quicker installation times, faster speeds, lower monthly costs and greater reliability. Wireless One President and Chief Executive Officer Henry M. Burkhalter announced, "Wireless One selected Hybrid Networks to provide the high-speed data modems, software and headend equipment. We offer Memphis area businesses the most advanced two-way wireless data service. Wireless data services operate on licensed two-way broadband spectrum. This new technology provides affordable alternatives to traditional local loop services for a variety of 'last mile' connections. It solves many business communications problems and gives unsurpassed speed at affordable prices. It is priced in tiers depending on speed and usage." Ernest D. Yates, Wireless One Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer explained, "This service provides commercial customers, for the first time, a viable product for high-speed Internet access and other data and voice capabilities. Our future plans include offerings for data services beyond Internet access. They include local loop services, Voice over IP, Multiple Dwelling Unit Internet access and other voice and data services. Two-way wireless technology trials are underway for MDU High Speed Internet access and Voice over IP. Results are encouraging and introduction of new products in these areas is projected for 1999. With this technology Wireless One can diversify its service offerings into the metropolitan business community." Wireless One, Inc., a Broadband Wireless Access provider owns, develops and operates wireless video, data and voice over Internet Protocol systems in eleven contiguous states in the Southeast U.S. with exclusive licenses in the Multi-Point Multi-Channel Distribution System ("MMDS") and Wireless Communications Spectrum ("WCS"). The MMDS and WCS licenses cover an estimated 7,700,000 total households and 800,000 businesses. The Company owns a 50% interest in Wireless One of North Carolina, L.L.C. that holds exclusive MMDS and WCS licenses in 13 North Carolina markets with 3,000,000 households and 290,000 businesses.
