Therein lies the trouble and I contend that probabilistically speaking the trend is unidentifiable. David Stern and I had a long discussion on this topic which you may find interesting. Or, since you have a background in statistics, you may look up the books by Dixit and Pindyck called Investment under Uncertainty and by John C. Hull called Options, Futures and Other Derivatives.

PS: I do agree that DELL is very attractively priced at this point. If I were not overweighted in DELL I would start accumulations, but looking at RMBS instead.

BEWARE - two of the MM's big boys ( Ralph Acampora & Barton Biggs ) have appeared in the last 24 hrs. with a thumbs up in the mist of potential bad news on the political scene. Great money making opportunity in the next two weeks. You saw yesterday how they make their money, you will see it at least twice more in the next two weeks, maybe more.
