There are a lot of websites from which you can derive the information you wish for if you are willing to do the work. Here are two which I like to visit periodically:

oilonline.com

209.196.137.18

(Since I learned to do this, I've become dangerous!)

You are right in that there are a lot to choose from. But in my opinion, deciding to make a new investment or add to an existing investment in the sector right now will dominate over which company you pick. They have moved as a group over the last several years.

Hi Fred
You might want to check out Alan Abelson's "Up & Down Wallstreet" column this week, he quotes some oil guru named Bernie. Bernie suggests Burlington Resources, Tom Brown, Louis Dreyfus, Cabot Oil & Gas, Pogo, Apache, and Snyder. These are oil and gas companies with the emphasis on gas, not drillers. You should do your own research but this is a start.
