Great question but answers are only speculation that we all have been wishing for some time now...

cisco's stratacom atm is much weaker than fore's product and it would fill a nice gap in their product line. IBM has the cash but is equipment their core competency? LU bought Yurie and has an atm product....although not nearly as strong as fore's. I do not believe cpq would be a strategic fit in their product line.

Probably crazy ideas, but I've always thought FORE would fit into HWP (Hewlett Packard) nicely. Another very crazy idea is Microsoft. We know they've used FORE products, which is an endorsement. They can't use their cash for acquisitions into software because of anti-trust. But intelligent network products are essentially software (although anti-trust wouldn't necessarily see it that way) and could be the next strategic growth area.

I think Intel is a good fit because of the partnerships with fore. If not Intel, then I think IBM. I used to think Erricson until todays news of a poor quarter and 10000 layoffs. Intel is my bet.
