Hi Ken, Your points are well stated. I am short sighted enough to just be thinking about New Year!

It's usually the same - the bad boys get punished because their stock is down. Tax selling is a reality. The other side of this coin is that $$$ realized from selling losers for tax reasons go looking for a new home. That tends to push up the good boys at this same time of year.

I've several years data of the NASDAQ New Highs and New Lows on a weekly basis. I use Norman Fosback's "High - Low Logic" index formula with that data and it has a definite seasonal blip in December. Lots of new highs and new lows simultaneously. If I knew how, I'd make my data "seasonally adjusted", but alas, I don't have a clue as to how!
Take a peak at the "DIVERGENCE" graph at:

I don't think we'll see a new low on IDTI before the close of the year, but at the same time I'd be very surprised to see it break out on the upside either. I guess I'll face next year's challenges once it's here!

Best regards, Tom
