PixTech Announces World's First Functional Full Color 15-Inch Field Emission Display (FED) SANTA CLARA, Calif. and ROUSSET, France, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- PixTech, Inc.(Nasdaq: PIXT; EASDAQ: PIXT) today announced it has produced the world's first functional full color 15-inch diagonal Field Emission Display (FED). The displays operate at up to 6,000 volts between anode and cathode, and demonstrate brightness up to 700 candelas per square meter. PixTech plans to demonstrate one of the displays at the Display Works conference starting on February 3, 1999. The displays are the result of an intense R&D project PixTech began in 1996. The Company worked closely with a major Japanese CRT manufacturer to advance the project to this demonstration phase. The Company believes large, high-voltage FED technology will be ideal for multimedia applications such as desktop monitors and television sets, due to its CRT-like viewing quality, brightness and unrestricted viewing angle. Dieter Mezger, PixTech's President, stated, ''This is an important accomplishment and milestone for PixTech. We are focused on increasing the volume of our 5.2-inch displays from our plant in Unipac, Taiwan. However, we have not neglected the future and we believe that long term, the market for these large high-voltage displays presents PixTech with a great opportunity.'' Mezger continued, ''PixTech has a history of delivering the 'world's first' when it comes to FED technology. For example, LETI, the lab from which PixTech exclusively licensed the fundamental technology, demonstrated the first monochrome FED display in 1991. PixTech demonstrated the first defect-free 5-inch color display in 1995 and the first color 10-inch display in 1996. In 1998 alone, PixTech has achieved two 'world firsts' with the first FED commercially available to an end-user and now the completion of our 15-inch prototypes.'' About PixTech, Inc. Pix
