I didn't find any density specs, but for comparison my Hefty garbage bags are .9 mil. Each bag is about 2 square meters and there are 35 of them in a box that weigh about 2 pounds, so there is about 35 square meters per pound. I would think that Kapton is about the same density, so I come up with about $2 a square meter for the Kapton substrate, which would be a small part of the total cost of a solar panel. Let's hope that it makes a good substrate and that we triple the vapor deposition speed. We could have a real breakthrough in solar panel cost of manufacture.
