My question came from a fairly biased position, John. I work for a
large sogo shosha, or Japanese trading company. We're always looking for products for import/export to Asia, with Japan as our focus. So, fonix (as well as its competitors) interests me for that reason.

I'm thinking that ASR geared toward the Japanese would have an immediate market demand in cars, before all else. The Japanese have been very aggressive with GPS, much more so than in the West. If you've driven in Japan, you can appreciate how helpful it would be to have someone giving you directions, esp. since many streets don't have names!

I'm wondering if they wouldn't be more willing to experiment with a new technology like fonix's. I really don't have an answer to that question. I just wonder.

Certainly, the English-speaking market is much bigger, and more resources are being put into developing the technology. So it would stand to reason that the English-based product would hit the market first (I mean, the ASR product that works extremely well).

Does anyone know if other languages work better for this sort of thing? Japanese would have to come in on the more difficult end of the spectrum, but I'm curious.

No answers, just curiosity.
