Strip search at Canadian school sparks
outrage

KINGSVILLE, Ontario, Dec 9 (Reuters) - A strip search by teachers of 19 teenage students at a high school has sparked outrage in this small Ontario community, a police investigation and a sharp rebuke from the provincial premier. School board officials in Kingsville, Ontario, a town of 6,000 people just across the border from Detroit, Michigan, told a news conference on Wednesday that the search "exhibited a total lack of sound judgment". Two teachers involved have been suspended and police are investigating the incident. "We are investigating in response to a complaint, and the school board is conducting its own investigation," said Nick Kuipers, the Kingsville chief of police.
The suspended teachers, a vice-principal and a physical education teacher, last week ordered a class of male grade 9 students to remove their shirts, trousers and underwear for a search after
C$90 went missing from a fellow student.
Ontario Premier Mike Harris called the strip-search "repulsive""and "abhorrent". "I personally think back to teenage years and the challenges of puberty and of a very sensitive age and I can't imagine there is a teacher in Ontario that would have been party to anything like this,"Harris said.
In response to complaints by parents, the area school board on Wednesday released new guidelines for student searches, saying students may be asked to turn out their pockets or remove
shoes and socks, but police must be called for more intensive searches.

The vice-principal & the physical education teacher must be gay. Seriously, who's going to shove $90 up their own ASK.
