ELECTRONIC BUYERS' NEWS - Dell Computer Corp. (Nasdaq:DELL - news) asked LCD suppliers to adopt a standard for laptop flat panels, Electronic Buyers'News reported in its Dec. 7 issue. Although semiconductor firms have had a difficult year with the global economic crisis, some chip suppliers such as fabless companies have done well, Electronic Buyers' News reported. Fabless Semiconductor Association will name Broadcom Corp.(Nasdaq:BRCM - news). the best public fabless company of 1998, the magazine said. Arrow Electronics Inc. (NYSE:ARW - news) remains committed to keeping its local flavor strong, but the distributor is also organizing its operations with a customer-focused segmentation, the magazine said. One of the areas it will do this in is the United Kingdom, where it will launch a modified version of its domestic seven-segment model.
