Hello!

I'll bet that Cisco didn't do ANYTHING with Novell without first consulting MSFT. In fact, I can just see Mr Gates right now screaming at some of his people why they can't make their domain-based flat system work like an x.509-based object directory (NDS).

Thanks for the info. I've been following this NDS vs AD thing from early on and I can say that as long as MSFT maintains any type of backwards compatibility with domains, they will NEVER have a directory worth it's weigh in code!

Cisco is still betting on MSFT while their customers are flocking to Nortel and Lucent for NDS support.

Peter

>>... most probably with Novell, Java and Linux - the new forces in the industry.>>

Peter:

The trio has a nice ring to it.

You hit the nail on the head.

Right on buddy!

Watch this triad really start to take off. They complement each other so well. Intelligent network enabled solution platforms that drive central server driven bandwidth-bursting Java apps.

Makes for one huge Joy ride.

Surfs up or Servers up?

No doubt about it. Can you beat a mysterious system32 directory dump every time you boot NT for kicks --- see if you can edit the registry to eliminate that one!

And it will be Linux that rivals Netware for uptime, no doubt, and they both run as well on 486's as NT does on a K6-2-333.

However I believe you are posting from the UK. take a look over to the eastern edge of Europe and you will find this big Eurasian mess called Russia.

Microsoft's operating systems function just the way Russian governments do, and Russia has 1000 years of history. It proves very simply that idiots can and do design systems that the rest of us have to live with --- that is MSFT's strength, once they can control how people think.
