<Crook, a former engineer at IBM (IBM:NYSE)> Gee, is IBM a competitor of ORCL's? Wouldn't harbor any old feelings would you Doug? MSFT, SYBS, IFMX and SAP are nothing as competitors compared to the IBM/ORCL situation. <We believe this represents a premium valuation, especially for a turnaround story.> Turnaround story? Doug, it isn't 1990 anymore. ORCL had a slower than anticipated quarter in the past 4 years. That is HARDLY a turnaround. ORCL is a PREMIER supplier of internet componentry and services across all business segments and all economies. Given the ludicrous valuations of many 'internet' companies, 28 is HARDLY outrageous as a forward looking valuation. I can appreciate the Pru is learning how to rate companies and use its new valuation system, but you look like Acampora on this one - STRONG BUY one month, downgraded the next. It isn't so much a downgrade as it is an implementation of a new system at Pru. <Crook, whose firm has not underwritten for Oracle> or any other tech stock for that matter. The day my broker calls me and offers me the opportunity to participate in an IPO I'll wet my pants! Now Pruguy - did it take a rocket scientist to see BAANF coming off $40? They are a POS company with a screwed up infrastructure in the ERP sector facing long sales cycles, curtailed due to Y2K timing issues. BMCS is on the back edge of a large upsurge in mainframe sales for Y2K purposes. The BMCS purchases and incremental license revenue flows to them for 3-18 months after the mainframes go in. The ORCL call wasn't stellar. If he had made that call when ORCL was at $20, THEN I'd start to believe Doug is a god. As for bailing at $35, which is the crux of this argument, I think he got you out early. ORCL is positioned to continue to sell extremely well through Y2K and beyond. They are at the leading edge of 8i availability. Their app suite is undergoing the Web retool that it needs and they are adding to the app suite daily. They continue to build their VERY LARGE consulting business, rivaling IBM's GSG. When these goofy internet's start to blow up and a lot of the other REALLY ludicrous valuations come apart that money will be searching for value again, just like it was when we bottomed a couple months back and companies like ORCL and SUNW will still be standing and still be making their numbers. ttf
