Here's another good review of ATi's new chip:

anandtech.com

Anand does a very good job of detailing the strengths and problems with the chip and the current set of drivers. Again, the conclusion is that it is a very good chip, but it isn't going to wipe out all the competition.

Michael

ps - the very fast ramdac of the V3 may end up being a key strength.

I was asked about my ATi "50%" improvement comment in my post a few back. Actually, I misremembered, it was "40%". Here's a link to the old ATi press release:

atitech.ca

I was an avid reader of graphics news at the time (trying to decide between voodoo, voodoo2, and ATi) and remember that, when the drivers were tested in games, the benchmark improvement was not reflected in actual gameplay.

btw - 3Dfx did something similar with their release about their beta DX6 drivers. Yes, benchmarks (not games) showed improvement because of multi-texturing in DX6, but I'm still not aware of a DX6 multi-texture game.
