Blue, we seem to be saying the same thing about Jesus, but labelling it differently. Definitely, to me someone who has a social agenda which advocates for the rights of the very poor is extremely political. As far as the Gospels go, they were written by men from different Mediterranean cultures and social classes over a fairly long time period in an attempt to pass along the "good news" about Jesus and keep followers interested, and recruit new ones. While there is some continuity as to events which happened, there was definitely a lot of propaganda as well.
