I try and service my vehicles regularly too, nobody else gets to 'cept me. I do all my own servicing and repairs.

What I mean by 'regular' servicing is that I change the oil whenever it starts to get dark enough to see on the dipstick level, which is typically every 13,000km (8,000 miles) or so. Amazingly, the engine still doesn't seem to use any oil between these extended change intervals except whatever seeps through the gaskets (mostly the oilpan).

I credit the engine's reliability to the previous owner having performed regular oil changes and also me using 100% synthetic oil in the car since I bought it at 220,000 km. I use a mixture of 10W30 and 15W50 depending on the seasonal temperatures expected.

Bullrider: Like you I am a MILKER!!! I have a 1989 Jeep Cherokee with 168,000 miles on it (engine replaced at 161k), gave my son a 1986 Legend which now has 178,000 miles, and I also have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee which we use for long trips. My secret is change the oil religiously every 3,000 miles (use Synthetic last year or so), follow owners manual for everything else mechanical, and keep it clean and waxed. All vehicles look almost like new. JDN
ps: Jeeps not babied, we have offroaded all over the Western USA and Northern Canada
