Walt,

You clearly understand much more about the technical issues than I do but it certainly seems that the situation is relatively straightforward. QCOM has the technology.GSM has mkt share. That's the basis for the trade. Q gets EQUAL ACCESS to the mktplace, ERICY and the rest get CDMA. No EQUAL ACCESS, NO Trade.

I'm not really sure why they're so afraid. They, ie ERICY and NOKIA are huge companies with extensive customer bases all over the world. They should be able to compete even if they drop the barriers. I suppose this holds for both sides but do they really want to spend the next couple of years in court somewhere in Texas where the outcome is left up to the court?

They've already admitted that TDMA/GSM cannot provide what's needed for 3G. Why are all these other companies allowing Ericsson to do their bidding?. If I were CEO of NOKIA, MOT, Siemens, etc., I think I'd view ERICY as a more dangerous competitor than Q.Could it be that an agreement will be reached which hangs Ericsson out to dry?
