Does anyone know how well the Voodoo 3 will work with a dual processor system? I heard that John Carmack will include dual processor support for Quake 3 Arena. I am thinking of building a 900 Mhz dual processor system (two Celeron 300a's overclocked to 450 MHZ and using the SMP trick) as a summer project. Does anyone know anything about this?

I sold because 3Dfx was not returning my calls (very bad based on personal experience in the past with other small cap stocks) and becuase it was 25% of my portfolio which I decided was too much (I always review my holding every quarter). I had bought a bunch more stock when it was at $10.5 (3/4 of my holdings were bought at that level).

I still own 50% of what I did and plan to hold that for several years as long as I'm sure the company is executing their strategy. I finally reached 3Dfx via phone and had many of my questions answered. I can now sleep a little better at night and I made a profit.

Patrick...I think I was pretty clear in my earlier

post about why I sold...(Post # 9423)

I_hate_being out of this stock...even for 31 days! I_am_concerned that it will ramp up and "leave me in the dust" before I can buy back in. But....the financial case was just too compelling for me. I really need the tax advantage given my success elsewhere in the market. Meanwhile, this stock has often dropped 3-4 bucks after testing resistance, so I may be just fine getting back in after Jan 7. I'm still holding 4000 shares in my IRA, 3550 shares in my wife's IRA, and 450 shares in each of our kid's custodial accounts. Obviously, I still believe in this company's long term potential.

Not being able to get a hold of someone at 3Dfx (still) went a long way towards my change of heart on them. I get paranoid when companies don't return my calls, especially when the stock starts to drop (for whatever the reason). Even so, net-net, there has not been a substantial change in my position. I do know of a few friends who want to sell for tax loss reasons as well.

Pat, "...and haven't been smoking the option crack pipe" ?! Let it be known that I consider crack addiction safer than "option addiction", if indeed someone can be addicted to options.

Pat,

I cut 1/2 of my position because I do not have as much faith in them as I used to. The ATI chip seems to be very good and actually allows games to run in 32 bit color at reasonable performance. The developers comments to the Voodoo3 were not very positive and 3DFX seems to really struggle to support any drivers that are not Glide based.

I have two main concerns the first being that I am not convinced as of this point that the Voodoo3 will be the best gaming card on the market when it comes out. The developers responses to the Voodoo3 concerned me and I am not sure that the Voodoo3 will be the best card available for Q3A, Everquest or any of the other big games coming out next year that I want to play.

The other concern I have is how is 3DFX going to grow their business. It seems to me they have to do it in the OEM space. Is the 125 mhz Voodoo3 going to take business away from the Fury or a .25 micron TnT?? I do not know but I do not see any reason right now why they can assume that the Voodoo3 is going to own the OEM space.

I see the risk with 3DFX as being very high and since I do not have that much faith in the stock going to 40 I wanted to lighten my position.

Eric
